When Lofthæna, still pregnant, wanted to see his father Harald, hersir of Vík ("Bay" area of the current Oslo southeast) Both parents passed through Berurjóðr (Southwest). This is where their friend Ingjaldr Lofthæna that gave birth to Oddr. Ingjaldr thus became his adoptive father. A Hrafnista, he met his brother Guðmundr , son of Grim Hairy to Play, and his cousin Sigurd, son 's sister Grim. Guðmundr Sigurd wanted to leave and sail north and refused to take with them the young Oddr. But their ship had no favorable wind and Guðmundr had a dream where a polar bear threatened the boat. Sigurd explained that it was the fylgja Oddr (his tutelary spirit) and they could not have wind without taking Oddr.
to Play Grim Hairy Oddr then gave three Gusisnautar (Gusirr of the Present) he had inherited from Ketil Salmon, and said those three magic arrows returned to those who threw them. The three arrows were manufactured by Dvergar (Dwarves). Oddr joined his brothers with his "blood brother" Ásmundr.
They went north. They plundered the country first magicians Sami and continued until the distant Bjarmaland. When they fought Sami, Oddr advised to throw the corpses of enemies killed in the water because they were magicians who could make them fight even their dead. They won treasures but a huge storm struck them and they had to throw silverware bjarmienne overboard.
Revenues to land, they arrived in a people who mixed magical beings of various sizes, trolls and giants. A Giant is even served a spell to send (Sending ) to bombard the rocks on their vessels. With Presents Gusirr, Oddr killed a group of Giants and won his nickname Orvar-Oddr , Oddr Arrows to .
They had the same winds to return to Hrafnista laden with treasures Bjarmaland.
Oddr decided to become for some time a Viking (a pirate). He left with his face on the Rocks ships Halfdan River Gautelfr . He killed him and took his bow of the ship " Drekki " he called Hálfdanarnaut ( Present Halfdan ).
After further battles against other Vikings and of berserkers, he met the great Viking Hjálmarr and its ally Thord Splendor-of-l'étrave in Svíþjóð (Sweden). Hjálmarr forces were far superior, but he decided to disregard the difference in the fight with the troops Oddr be fair. After struggling for three days with vessels Hjálmarr, they recognized their mutual value. Oddr Hjálmarr and also became "sworn brothers" and decided to join. Hjálmarr explained his code of honor that was to never eat raw meat and do not take women. Hjálmarr Ingibjörg wanted to marry the daughter of King Hlöðvér of Svíþjóð but this one, if granted land-frank as Viking did not want son.
They left then dispatch to the British Isles. They ravaged Scotland, Orkney and arrived in Ireland. But that's where his brother swore Ásmundr was killed by an arrow. He had died young like the Prophecy said.
Oddr became enraged and killed the Irish, including women, contrary to the Code of Honour Hjálmarr. It would remove the beautiful Irish Ölvör when she promised in exchange for his liberty to weave a magical coat that could protect anything unless we were running away. Oddr agreed and returned the next summer to get the tunic. He then asked Ölvör in marriage. They had a daughter named Ragnhildr .
A wicked man named Ögmund Eyþjófsban (Murderer of Eyþjóf), which seemed as strong qu'Oddr himself killed by their partner Thord Oddr treachery and swore revenge. Then
associates helped the Viking Skoll to take the kingdom of England and Játmundr Hjálmarr refused to take the kingdom for him, although that would have allowed him to finally get the hand of Ingibjörg Svíþjóð.
Oddr Hjálmarr and returned to the island Samsey . They then had to face the son of 12 Berserk Arngrímr. Hervarðr, Hjörvarðr, IRAN, Angantyr, Bíldr, Bui, Barri, Toki, Tindra, Tyrfingr Haddingjar and the twins. By Double View Oddr saw their tutelary spirits of warriors, beasts, bulls and dogs. He wore his shirt but forgot her quiver and arrows on the ship. So he had to fight with axes.
Angantyr was the famous edged sword magic gold Tyrfingr , which was forged by Dvergar Dvalin and Durin, but they had also cursed the sword to cause the loss of one who possessed it. Angantyr proposed fight against Oddr to see who would win between his sword and any material that penetrated the tunica magic sewn Ölvör. But Hjálmarr Angantyr held to face himself, despite the recommendations of Oddr.
Oddr managed to defeat the berserkers but that Angantyr was the loyal friend and Tyrfing Hjálmarr killed each other.
Hjálmarr, dying, funeral and sang a hymn Oddr did promise to return his body to the Princess of Ingibjörg Svíþjóð. Angantyr Oddr buried with the Cursed Sword Tyrfingr . He brought the body of Hjálmarr in Uppsala and Ingibjörg died immediately on hearing of his death. They were buried together on a mound.
Oddr continued his expeditions since he always sought Ögmundr Eyþjófsban, who killed his friend Thord. Arrived on the coast France, Oddr decided to be baptized as a Christian.
He continued his travels and even came to bathe in the waters of the Jordan. He was then captured by a giant Eagle who took it to its nest for its young.
Oddr killed the offspring of Eagle and saw that he was Risaland (Land of the Giants). He became friends with a Giant named Hilder who was sailing on a boat made of stone. Hilder would defy his two brothers and Úlfr Ylfingr to þing Giants in a battle of beasts. Oddr offered to take a large wild boar on the island for the Wolves beat the big wolf Úlfr and Polar Bear Ylfingr. Oddr slept with the daughter of Hilda, Hildigunnr and she gave birth to a boy named Vine.
Hilder became King of the Giants after this competition and animals entrusted Oddr where he put his treasure under a heavy stone. Oddr decided to escape but could not steal a part of the treasure because the stone was too heavy.
He met then a man named Rauðgrani (Barbarossa) and Oddr joined his crew. Barbarossa then told him the origins of his nemesis, Ögmundr Eyþjófsban .
King Hárekr of Bjarmaland wanted revenge for the raid Oddr and joins a giant named Grímhildr by singing enchantments ( galdr ). Thus he conceived Ögmundr.
Ögmundr was monstrous as a troll and had a blue skin and black, with a large tuft hence its nickname Flóki . They made a great ritual of trance ( seidr ) to make it invulnerable. Ögmundr Eyþjóf killed the great hero, which earned him his nickname. His mother Grímhild turned into a flying monster with a human head ( finngálkn ) and decided Oddr first to tackle it.
The monster had large claws that were each holding a sword. Oddr could kill the creature with three magic arrows, but not before several men Barbarossa had been killed.
Oddr then found his son's half-giant Vignir who said qu'Ögmundr Eyþjófsban had gone away to the northwest, the country Helluland beyond Greenland.
They arrived on two islands and some descended on the island that was submerged and drowned. It was actually two huge whales qu'Ögmundr Eyþjófsban was sent by magic Oddr cons.
But when they arrived in Helluland, Ögmundr Eyþjófsban Vignir killed with his teeth. As he was invulnerable against all weapons of iron, Oddr took a club of wood, but Ögmundr Eyþjófsban managed to escape.
Oddr then went to the East Road that runs from the Baltic Sea to the Greek Empire. Ögmundr Eyþjófsban son had taken refuge as a Giant Oddr had to use his arrows against the army of the Giants and his hands to finally pull the skin from bone Ögmundr. He said he had finally managed to eliminate his enemy.
Barbarossa disappeared Oddr and then realized that it was probably Óðinn god, who came to give him advice.
Oddr continued to travel eastward. He served in the King's Court in Herrauðr Gardarika (Russia) won a championship there and drink where he sang many poems. He received a mysterious man new stone arrows which were useful to kill the king of Bjálki Álfr magician, who was so powerful that he could hitch his horses to the stars. The king offered him a skjaldmær ("Virgin and shield", a Valkyrie) to hold his shield but Oddr let her drown in a swamp.
Oddr But when the king discovered hidden Kvillánus prevailing throughout the Gardarika was none other than his old enemy, Ögmundr Eyþjófsban, who had survived qu'Oddr had torn his skin and hair.
Oddr finally realized he could never vraincre his nemesis since he was a Spirit and not a man. He agreed to terminate his plan to revenge and goes with Kvillánus-Ögmundr.
Oddr m. Silkisif , a daughter of King Herrauðr, and had two son, and Ásmundr Herrauðr.
He had a long life and decided to return to his home in Hrafnista. So much time had passed there was in ruins but the people cheered him as the Lord of Hrafnista. He returned
even Berurjóðr, where he was raised and spent before a horse's skull that had traveled there for Hrafnista. A snake came and bit his skull Oddr. He was mortally wounded and the Seer's Prophecy came true because it was the skeleton of his horse Faxi. He sang a great poem funeral and died. The son of
Oddr Silkisif and founded their house Gardarika Ragnhildr but his daughter was born Ölvör of Ireland, returned to base his family Hrafnista.
Tyrfing The cycle was that the sword was cursed Dwarven committing three acts evil whenever she went out of its scabbard. Hjálmarr death was the first but later the girl came Angantyr wake the dead and dig up the sword. Tyrfing then made a crime fratricide among his children and his son Heidrek was then himself killed by his own servants.
This
Saga also seems completely forget the sword Dragvendil appears both in the two small sagas of Ketil the Salmon and the Play Grim Hairy. An associate of Barbarossa and in Oddr Gardarika, siRNA, also has a magical sword that has a name, " Sniðill .
version of the Battle of the Samsey Gesture Danes Saxo Grammaticus says Oddr not beat them with his famous arrows but with the rudder of his ship.
The Saga of the Grand Voyageur Oddr mixture of many elements of various myths. There seems to be an influence of Ulysses when he faces the Giants who throws rocks at his ship. The great archer foot bitten by the snake can also recall the myth of Philoctetes (but this may be a coincidence). The episode with the giant bird closely resembles that of the Second Voyage of Sinbad the Sailor (except that Sinbad is taken voluntarily by the Roc). Oddr spent his last years to reign over HOLMGARD (the Russian city of Novgorod) and there is contamination with the life of the Varangian Oleg the Wise, who died in the same manner bitten by a snake with the same prophecy.
