Long Facial Compilation

[Scandinavian Week] RuneQuest Vikings 1985/2010

RuneQuest was created by Steve Perrin as a generic role-playing but it was from the beginning rather centered on the mythical world of Greg Stafford, Glorantha . The barbarians of Orlanth Sartar more like a mixture of Celtic, Anglo-Saxon and Viking ships, but without the first examples could suggest a more complex mixture, more Greco-Roman (high in Asterix, I saw rather Orlanth by Celts and Romans in Lunar but some chose to see Sartarites - albeit slightly more urbanized than the usual Barbarians - Greeks in the face of Moon Persians).

In the 3rd edition RuneQuest tried for a while to become much more "generic" with the release of RuneQuest Vikings (1985, analysis on the GROG ) by Greg Stafford (who also came out on his Pendragon Arthurian myth).

The very title of RuneQuest had always seemed enough skiing (although the pictograms Runes gloranthiennes Stafford had relatively little to do with Futhark) and the style of the sagas had influenced many legends about the hero " Harrek Bear Blanc" (which appears from the wargame White Bear and Red Moon ). But most of the magic system of RuneQuest relatively low fantasy and less powerful compared to other games with smaller combat spells fairly discreet, able to adapt quite well to the atmosphere of the sagas. There is therefore relatively few necessary modifications.

The high quality of the supplement (which total about 150 pages if you include all the lists of NPC) is the inclusion of an entire campaign in the south-western Norway. Members of a clan of Ulf Hafursfjord in Rogaland learn the various aspects of life in Scandinavia, with a hunt, a visit to Thing, a raid on enemy shipping and maritime transport more distant (where Stafford likes to include race gloranthienne Children of the Winds as encounter exotic). Stafford is a bit like he did in Pendragon gradually introducing the characters, immersing players into the North.

The new supplement Vikings RuneQuest (Mongoose, 2010) by Pete Nash is scheduled for publishing called " RuneQuest II" (that is to say according to the ways in which we account 4.5 or the 5th edition?). There are many long tables random events such as children. The table of names and nicknames is the longest I've found in all supplements that I know (more than 500 male names and 150 female names p. 45-47).

This is just a detail but I do not know if everyone will be thrilled with the idea that the Scandinavians are indeed stronger and taller than the others (apart from fantastic countryside where they can have blood Giant). The rules (p. 36) gives them a Force to a 3d6 +3 and 2d6 Size to 9 while at the other extreme Slavs have a force and a much higher average size of 2d6 +3. According GURPS Vikings Graeme Davis (p. 20), there is an effect of diet but the average of the Scandinavians from the graves would not have been much higher than rural populations Europe.

Unlike version of Greg Stafford, who used the system RQ virtually unchanged, Pete Nash decided to adapt the system to make it more magical near atmosphere legends. There is more magic divine standard of Cults. As for the Futhark Runes , they become the subject of specific skills (either seidr , ritual trance, or Burn Runes to make Galdr of Singing). The seidr here is one way of doing galdr , which may conform to certain Sagas where this does not seem exclusive (unlike a game like Yggdrasil which seems more clearly distinguish the two).

The book ends with many early stories, but many developments that the Norwegian countryside of Stafford, who had the advantage of starting the "local" to "global". It would really complete a full script. The world map is also much less detail. But overall, this new version still manages to have more atmosphere thanks to these changes in detail in the rules, while still remaining the RuneQuest.

[RPG] Rereading ... Casus Belli (12) Miscellaneous links

Casus Belli No. 12, December 1982, 40 pages.

number for Christmas 82. The
News Front have fewer new role-playing in the No. 11. Especially since it was announced TSR bought the company prestigious SPI wargames. To my knowledge, TSR was not able to manage this fund (their magazine Ares integrated into Dragon , died several years later and TSR will be a reprint without the watered-down demons role playing Dragonquest ) and the main designers set out to found SPI Victory Games (Which was very innovative including role playing James Bond ). Apart from that, the outputs include the module by Gary Gygax WG4 Forgotten Temple Of The Tharizdun , play superhero Champions (the second edition ) and the dark play on foot in full War Vietnam Recon (first edition, the following is taken from then Palladium).

Guess Who's Coming to Dinner a thematic unit with three plant monsters Bruce Heard with sketches in a sectional Guiserix: the green octopus , The Orchid Gobe-all vampiric plant and . The Bizarre Bazaar has again translations, but this time Dragon # 58, February 1982, in the special issue of Roger E. Moore Dwarfs: The Helm Guile underground (to better identify the architectural details) and the Great Anvil Dwarves (which can be best blacksmith, but the treasure seems very difficult to transport).

and the rune quest by Frederick Armand (which is usually chronic rather wargames) is presenting RuneQuest (with coverage of the English edition by Game Workshop). The author simply says that the game is absolutely top to D & D (which I think is true), even if it is "less detailed than for veterans C & S . One argument used is strange that this is one of the most popular games after Traveller in Great Britain. But Armand speaks more flexibility and elegance of the rules (no classes, the unified system) and almost no world Glorantha.

SOS Pantheon is an article by Bruce Heard to simulate the Intervention Divine in AD & D. In RuneQuest , Divine Intervention is easy but very expensive: an insider of a God has a percentage chance equal to its score in power and you lose a number of power points equal to the number on the dice (he So a 1% chance of losing all his points and lose his soul). Here, however, the ad hoc system looks a bit like RoleMaster : we throw a d100 with the bonus level (+1 / 2 or Level / Level for priestly classes) or situation (+15 a crusade or a temple) and then determines whether the appeal was heard by a simple up / Einherjar / valkyrie of God or by God himself (if the end result is greater than 100). Then determined by another jet if he decides to respond and the magnitude of its response. It sounds a bit complicated for relatively low probabilities, except for Priests or Paladins.

module AD & D number is "Convoy lost" (Level 3), Didier Guiserix and Agnes Pernelle (who was assistant editor of the magazine before becoming one of the editors with this scenario) . The module is filled with jokes and puns and even offers to meet Big Bill of No. 4 which offers competitive liquor (see rule on resistance to intoxication in Casus No. 11). But it is not intended as Big Bill accompanying the group (which may be better). The Casus No. 10 proposed a Auberge du Troll Jester and this module begins with a second, the Auberge de la Sudden Death innkeeper's Bretzel (one client called Iapudklinex). There are a series of small dungeons quite successful with a little story. One of the findings is that in addition to the plan included a drawing Guiserix outdoors, allowing a better viewing together.

The mini-game, Duel on Zloog is quite original. It's kind of fighting game for two players where everyone has an astronaut crashed in the marshes of the asteroid Zloog. Everyone should try to find something to leave his ship while fighting against the random encounters.

Constipation Burning , Uti

  • I have often talked about cited roleplaying but Age of Ravens just made several lists of cities of role play "RPGGeek" cited fantasy (Middenheim, Port Blacksands, Bluffside, Carse, Greyhawk, Ryoko Owari, Nishanpur, Kaer Maga, City-State Invincible Overlord of Tyre, clanking City, Pavis, Eidolon, etc..) cited for historical or modern games (Arkham, Prague, Bedlam City, Berlin, Hong Kong, London, Boston, Cairo, Chicago, Metropolis, New York, etc.). and cities of science fiction (which also includes the future of some real cities like Denver or Berlin).

  • The cartographer Keith Curtis gives examples of city plans .

  • Freakosophy had an argument two months ago that Superman is a character of moral absolutism as Batman, more ambiguous, is the hero of human immanence, that seeks justice no illusions about the fallibility and finiteness (which is why Batman can be in love with Catwoman, while Superman may be more hurt if Lois Lane toppled the dark side).

But the argument is used to better support the demonstration of uchronia Red Son by Mark Millar (Superman fell from the Soviet side and becoming a totalitarian instrument). And the mere fact that Kal-El is disguised as Clark Kent, low its inhumanity to better conceal evidence that he was actually a disguised misanthropic philanthropist .

Conversely, Mighty Godking now has a pretty Clark Kent apology saying it was instead the only hero to have weathered the " Batmanification " of all superheroes, a process that has increased in the Marvel comics of the '60s and '80s psychologism. All superheroes from Batman need a childish trauma to explain it to become heroes (Bruce Wayne wants to avenge mom and dad, Peter Parker wants to save his soul after the death of his uncle, Barry Allen has seen his mother die, Hal Jordan has seen his father die, Matt Murdock saw his father die, Wolverine has killed his father, etc..). But Superman has no psychological trauma out of a moral education and it is not the incarnate God who would receive the moral law of the higher authority. In this he is much more human than the Christ figure on which the Americans if devotees (at least the goyim) still want him back.

Certainly in the 60s, Superman was mourning the destruction of Krypton. The theme of this melancholy bereavement became also rather absent after years Weisinger (Mark Waid has unsuccessfully tried to get him back in the 2000s). But this feeling of loss does not create liability and the death of his parents (adoptive or biological) was not what made his desire for humanity. It was one example of his awareness of his own limitations . Clark could impose a totalitarian dictatorship in the Squadron Supreme if he wanted but he chose to "restrict ourselves . The

Elseworlds Kingdom Come as often show Batman slip in the hubris in the panopticon totalitarian and paranoid (which is why he created the batellite Brother Eye who will try to enslave Earth). Superman is rather rare figure in the fight against his own hubris , the hero fighting against the danger inherent heroism. It a character as democratic curiously trying to fit into the American Roosevelt. This also explains the limited success of Superman since the 60s because self-limitation of power sold poorly and it is not the speech that America or the world could hear. Promethean dream of man rising to the superman is more attractive than the opposite process in which the hero tries not to lose his humanity. Dr. Manhattan also embodies (as was clearly seen Grant Morrison) what would happen if Superman gave way, not in the will to power, but to a deity indifferent and impersonal.

Freakosophy said that Batman was the only person "without destiny " and that he had made himself by his free will, but it seems questionable as versions of characters. For a long time that this is especially the neurotic repetition compulsion, which replays endlessly his original trauma. [The argument Catwoman - Batman may like a criminal because he understands humanity - can backfire: Batman has no companion in fact real and that fads (apart from Robin) because he can never exceed this cycle of neuroses (apart from a few stories of the 60s where he had a family.]

This would rather the Last Son of Krypton who made the choice every moment to build a new life, not to colonize the Earth from Krypton and monuments to simply plug in the margin some harm that can be solved, without attempting to impose its power. Batman is the fantasy of force (the plutocrat who lets off steam by beating up criminals, madmen), and Superman is the awareness of the inadequacies of power.

I have not read the recent episodes of Superman by JM Straczynski does not inspire me but they really wanted to try it (like many things he wrote in the comics). Superman just seems batmanifié to become the n-th character tortured by a moral crisis on his artificial RESPONSIBILITIES. The character will not escape this force.

    Qualis Artifex!

At the time of the visit of Qadafi in Paris early in the term incoherent to our President an apology fanatic character, sex by Gaddafi, I completely missed at the time .

We are entitled to all the most stupid arguments. For example, if you criticize Gaddafi, it is only by racism and hatred of the South (Beyala is the great expert on this strategy of victimhood: when Read had found dozens of plagiarism in his works, she also denounced anti-African racism). Besides, she says, nobody criticizes Bush (by the way, the fact that El-Kadhafi says that the insurgents are handled by bin Laden suggests he is capable of imitating the methods of Bush). Similarly, any criticism of the Libyan regime is of colonialism and our democracy is as dictatorial as the company is full of discrimination.

And when the journalist tells the attempted rape that she suffered in 1984, Beyala implies, by repeating the vile sexism argument of all, it was she who tried to seduce " Guide "(his phrase" I do not judge sexuality Guide "is undoubtedly one of the worst statements ever heard).

The only positive argument against Beyala Algathafi is that he has resumed Nasser project (Pan-Arab first, then to failure, "Pan" to better justify the invasion of Chad) and he fought consistently for African Unity. True, but one wonders if the fact that the project is supported by a megalomaniac Caligula who did so only because he dreamed as a prophet of the continent did not hinder this process. And in any case that the United States of Africa had been based on a confederation of some dictatorships accomplices would not make Gaddafi a Jean Monnet, a Washington or even a Bolivar.

If Libya is never free from this madman and his family, there will have been a leap again from Ben Ali and Mubarak (or possibly the monarchy of Bahrain and the Republic "authoritarian" of Yemen). These dictators were only "traditional" as there are many others while with Colonel Gaddafi we were in the more fantastic and rarest of Nero, Saparmurat Niyazov or Kim Il- sung.

[RPG] Rereading ... Casus Belli (11)

Casus Belli No. 11, November 1982, 40 pages.

The No. 11 is the first issue of Casus after the departure of FMF (now marked as "founder"), leaving only Guiserix as editor until the end. Guiserix talk of a new generation of RPGs, "clearer and more attractive to the novice." But curiously, D & D will remain unbeatable in this issue, even Dragon, the official magazine of TSR was not then also D & D-centric. The

News Front are now at the beginning of the magazine. Casus announcement of a sudden an explosion of RPGs: the release of B4 The Lost City , Gangbuster , Star Frontiers, many supplements Traveller (Casus and mocks the French players who have not made Traveller because they are too "lazy", but they still do not write anything), Daredevils, Villains & Vigilantes , Man, Myth & Magic , Behind Enemy Lines , several supplements RuneQuest ( Borderlands, Soloquest , Cults of Prax ) Worlds of Wonder and even already RoleMaster (with the first announcement MERP , in preparation). Jeux Descartes (then at 40 rue des Ecoles) even organized a demonstration of D & D , Space Opera, Aftermath! Villains & Vigilantes and . We are still waiting the first official translation and legal D & D .

Guess Who's Coming to Dinner : the Sallamangé is a living room that eats metal and which closes to absorb weapons and armor of the characters. It can also move as a stream of pebbles.
Bazaar Bizarre : Rules Bruce Heard on the resistance to alcohol (where the Halflings are better drinkers than dwarves).

module AD & D is the 7th event (Level 2) by Bruce Heard, where the characters must solve many puzzles and challenges to find the treasure of the Old Andruald.

The minigame Sonienvo Uprising is a small skirmish between a dozen insurgents in the Balkans in 1911 in an imaginary battle (the rebels against the infamous Von Gülltx).

To compare, the same month, the big brother UK White Dwarf No. 35, which had just celebrated her 5 years, had regular articles for RuneQuest ("RuneRites) and Traveller . White Dwarf is more open to RQ that Games Workshop created a British version. Ian Livingstone gives elsewhere in his editorial in this issue a list of 10 best-selling games in the late 1982 in the USA: (1) D & D, (2) AD & D, (3) Traveller (4) The Fantasy Trip, (5) Top Secret (6) C & S, (7) T & T, (8) RuneQuest (9) Space Opera (10) Arduin Grimoire.
Number 4, TFT, Steve Jackson, later became the famous GURPS but I am surprised by the place of Top Secret, I had always taken for failure of TSR. And yet no Call of Cthulhu in the Top Ten?? We can compare with this list of games published in 1982 to see everything Casus did not speak again.

  • Via Iron Knee , this should facilitate the task of Glenn Beck to find new conspiracies to denounce.

  • An editorial by Tom Friedman reduced to its quintessence emptiness.

  • In all this "Spring Arab Peoples", the more increases could be more hope there has been less successful avoiding a dictatorship worse than falling (possibly Tunisia? ). The comparison with the Spring Peoples too predetermines the narrative as the European revolutions of 1848 were all failures lead to autocratic regimes, at least for several decades. But they were conditions for further reform.

In African countries after 1990 (which coincides more or less at the La Baule speech, even if the report is perhaps not causal), there were many multi-party elections but most were then also failures and returns to the College autocratic.

But as Kant said just before the French Revolution, no people can be free without the risk of being wrong. As they say we are not yet ready for freedom, they deny it ever be. Even in case of failure or a bloody theocracy worse than the dictatorship, we do not really see how one could spend a day democracy possible without going through these steps. The theocrats will lose their prestige once they have been in power even if afterwards it can be very long to get rid of.

  • The island of Bahrain have the 2 / 3 of its population Shiite Muslim (I would have to deliver to update my list on the Gulf oil monarchies ) due to Persian influence, but this Bahraini side was also the headquarters of the Shiite sect of strange Qarmats .

Around the year 500, the Sassanid Persian king Kavadh , influenced by the heretic mazdéiste Mazdak had already had a (brief) experience vegetarian communist. We may find traces in the "Qarmati" 400 years later.

Muhammad died in 632 and his son Ali (the First Imam Shiites) is murdered in 660. On the death of the seventh Imam, Muhammad ibn Isma'il `He in 813, the Shiites are divided between a majority in Syria (then) who refused to accept his death and believed he was still alive (this Ismailis are Shias ) and a minority who sought another successors (they are now the majority "Twelver "in Iran, and then they admit the following five Imams, the last Imam is" hidden "). In the years 890, Hamdan Qarmat millenarian who belonged to the group awaiting the return of the 7th Imam (although Sources suggest he then maintained for a time Ubayd Allah, who had founded the Shiite caliphate "Fatimid" in Egypt).

A group of his followers called the " Qarmats " because of him, now led by Abu Sa'id al-Hasan al-Jannabi, took control of the Bahrain coast 899. Qarmatiens These had evolved into radical revolutionaries, who had everything in common in their state "Utopian" and imposed vegetarianism (but communism between initiated members did not prevent slavery in the conquered subjects). They deviated so much from the traditional Islam that they even decided that many of the common beliefs was that of heresy, and in particular that the entire pilgrimage and worship of the Kaaba in Mecca was the idolatry.

In 928, the astrologers Qarmatiens determined him it was a great conjunction of the planets ( Mushtarie , Zuhal Jupiter and Saturn) that would open an era new, a new cycle and perhaps the arrival of the Mahdi . Their leader Abu Tahir said he found the Mahdi Persian in a young child but then he seems to be disappointed. The

Qarmats massacred thousands of pilgrims and ravaged cities of Mecca and Medina in 930 desecrating sites. they stole the Black Stone of the Kaaba and took hostage, saying that it was by divine order.

The Black Stone had already been torn to pieces once during previous wars, but kept it Qarmatiens captive for 23 years before finally making to 953 (but a story told they would have broken into several pieces and other legends Sunnis say they were cursed for this). The ratio of Muslims to the Kaaba long remained very ambiguous about this unique object of idolatry. Even the Sunnis of Saudi Wahhabis, who are both Pilgrimage today, were originally tempted to ban all pre-Islamic rituals before the sacred stone (which would be a gift from God, but also a reservoir of sins, with the ambiguity of any traditional "Scapegoat"). The

Bahrain was also dominated by a Sunni tribe of Kuwaiti origin (and supported by the British), which explains the anomaly of the head with a Sunni majority Shiite.

Ontario Has 2 Car Plates ?

[Scandinavian Week] The saga of that year the Arc Strip

years bogsveigis saga concludes the cycle of house Norwegian Hrafnista . But it is a welcome addition indirect, which is also not included in the French version of the Arrow Oddr in translation R. Boyer Anacharsis editions.

Böðmóðr Framarsson Hrafnhildr and daughter Ketill Salmon had a daughter Þorgerðr , who married Björn , a freeman of Hrafnista.

Þorgerðr Björn and had a daughter named Thordis (who had a son named Grim), a son named Þór and a child named last year . Thor was brave and had received the king of Olafr Naumdæla a sword named thegn (the Thane) and that's why he earned the nickname Þór thegn .

year was a smaller child, loved his mother but Þorgerðr despised his father Björn. He was the rival of his brother Þór thegn . When he grows up, he acquired great strength and a reputation as an excellent archer.

Unlike its cousins from Ketil Salmon online direct (Grim Oddr then), became a year living outside the law by staying Hrafnista. He rebelled against the king Ingjaldr, son of King Olafr and spent his life as a rebel while his brother Þór thegn wanted to remain faithful to the king.

Ingjaldr had more confidence in Torah thegn, although he made up his mind against his brother. Ingjaldr told him that his magnificent sword was not made for a common man. Þór replied that he could then resume thegn Ingjaldr but merely to say curtly that he could keep it and it pierced the body of Thor. It is for this act which is nicknamed the Bad Ingjaldr.

Ingjaldr year sent a message to posing for Thor thegn, saying he sought to reconcile with him. Án was warned in a dream by the ghost of his brother and bloody end it with the help of his son recovered, Þór Ánsson , he killed the lord felon.

    Shooting Pain In Pointer Finger

[Scandinavian Week] The saga of the Arrows Oddr

The Orvar-Odds saga , the third Sagas of the Men of Hrafnista , chronicles the life of the Oddr Arrows, son of the Grim Play Hairy and Lofthæna, son and grandson of Ketil Salmon the House and Hrafnista Hrafnhildr Brúnadóttir Finland. His saga is much longer and developed than that of his father and grandfather.

  • The Prophecy of völva

When Lofthæna, still pregnant, wanted to see his father Harald, hersir of Vík ("Bay" area of the current Oslo southeast) Both parents passed through Berurjóðr (Southwest). This is where their friend Ingjaldr Lofthæna that gave birth to Oddr. Ingjaldr thus became his adoptive father. Oddr was left fosterage Ingjaldr home and became "sworn brother " the son of Ingjaldr Ásmundr .

Oddr was a great archer and he did make a special large quiver in the skin of a black goat. When he grows

a völva (Witch, Psychic) named Heidra qu'Ásmundr prophesied would have a glorious life but die young, then have a long life qu'Oddr perish but killed by his gray horse Faxi hereby to Berurjóðr.

Oddr then took the gray horse, returned to his parents in Hrafnista and buried the horse, thinking and avoid the prophecy.

  • travel by Bjarmaland

A Hrafnista, he met his brother Guðmundr , son of Grim Hairy to Play, and his cousin Sigurd, son 's sister Grim. Guðmundr Sigurd wanted to leave and sail north and refused to take with them the young Oddr. But their ship had no favorable wind and Guðmundr had a dream where a polar bear threatened the boat. Sigurd explained that it was the fylgja Oddr (his tutelary spirit) and they could not have wind without taking Oddr.

to Play Grim Hairy Oddr then gave three Gusisnautar (Gusirr of the Present) he had inherited from Ketil Salmon, and said those three magic arrows returned to those who threw them. The three arrows were manufactured by Dvergar (Dwarves). Oddr joined his brothers with his "blood brother" Ásmundr.

They went north. They plundered the country first magicians Sami and continued until the distant Bjarmaland. When they fought Sami, Oddr advised to throw the corpses of enemies killed in the water because they were magicians who could make them fight even their dead. They won treasures but a huge storm struck them and they had to throw silverware bjarmienne overboard.

Revenues to land, they arrived in a people who mixed magical beings of various sizes, trolls and giants. A Giant is even served a spell to send (Sending ) to bombard the rocks on their vessels. With Presents Gusirr, Oddr killed a group of Giants and won his nickname Orvar-Oddr , Oddr Arrows to .

They had the same winds to return to Hrafnista laden with treasures Bjarmaland.

  • Shipments Viking and the first embodiment of Prophecy

Oddr decided to become for some time a Viking (a pirate). He left with his face on the Rocks ships Halfdan River Gautelfr . He killed him and took his bow of the ship " Drekki " he called Hálfdanarnaut ( Present Halfdan ).

After further battles against other Vikings and of berserkers, he met the great Viking Hjálmarr and its ally Thord Splendor-of-l'étrave in Svíþjóð (Sweden). Hjálmarr forces were far superior, but he decided to disregard the difference in the fight with the troops Oddr be fair. After struggling for three days with vessels Hjálmarr, they recognized their mutual value. Oddr Hjálmarr and also became "sworn brothers" and decided to join. Hjálmarr explained his code of honor that was to never eat raw meat and do not take women. Hjálmarr Ingibjörg wanted to marry the daughter of King Hlöðvér of Svíþjóð but this one, if granted land-frank as Viking did not want son.

They left then dispatch to the British Isles. They ravaged Scotland, Orkney and arrived in Ireland. But that's where his brother swore Ásmundr was killed by an arrow. He had died young like the Prophecy said.

Oddr became enraged and killed the Irish, including women, contrary to the Code of Honour Hjálmarr. It would remove the beautiful Irish Ölvör when she promised in exchange for his liberty to weave a magical coat that could protect anything unless we were running away. Oddr agreed and returned the next summer to get the tunic. He then asked Ölvör in marriage. They had a daughter named Ragnhildr .

A wicked man named Ögmund Eyþjófsban (Murderer of Eyþjóf), which seemed as strong qu'Oddr himself killed by their partner Thord Oddr treachery and swore revenge. Then

associates helped the Viking Skoll to take the kingdom of England and Játmundr Hjálmarr refused to take the kingdom for him, although that would have allowed him to finally get the hand of Ingibjörg Svíþjóð.

  • The Battle of Samsey

Oddr Hjálmarr and returned to the island Samsey . They then had to face the son of 12 Berserk Arngrímr. Hervarðr, Hjörvarðr, IRAN, Angantyr, Bíldr, Bui, Barri, Toki, Tindra, Tyrfingr Haddingjar and the twins. By Double View Oddr saw their tutelary spirits of warriors, beasts, bulls and dogs. He wore his shirt but forgot her quiver and arrows on the ship. So he had to fight with axes.

Angantyr was the famous edged sword magic gold Tyrfingr , which was forged by Dvergar Dvalin and Durin, but they had also cursed the sword to cause the loss of one who possessed it. Angantyr proposed fight against Oddr to see who would win between his sword and any material that penetrated the tunica magic sewn Ölvör. But Hjálmarr Angantyr held to face himself, despite the recommendations of Oddr.

Oddr managed to defeat the berserkers but that Angantyr was the loyal friend and Tyrfing Hjálmarr killed each other.

Oddr continued his expeditions since he always sought Ögmundr Eyþjófsban, who killed his friend Thord. Arrived on the coast France, Oddr decided to be baptized as a Christian.

He continued his travels and even came to bathe in the waters of the Jordan. He was then captured by a giant Eagle who took it to its nest for its young.

Oddr killed the offspring of Eagle and saw that he was Risaland (Land of the Giants). He became friends with a Giant named Hilder who was sailing on a boat made of stone. Hilder would defy his two brothers and Úlfr Ylfingr to þing Giants in a battle of beasts. Oddr offered to take a large wild boar on the island for the Wolves beat the big wolf Úlfr and Polar Bear Ylfingr. Oddr slept with the daughter of Hilda, Hildigunnr and she gave birth to a boy named Vine.

Hilder became King of the Giants after this competition and animals entrusted Oddr where he put his treasure under a heavy stone. Oddr decided to escape but could not steal a part of the treasure because the stone was too heavy.

King Hárekr of Bjarmaland wanted revenge for the raid Oddr and joins a giant named Grímhildr by singing enchantments ( galdr ). Thus he conceived Ögmundr.

Ögmundr was monstrous as a troll and had a blue skin and black, with a large tuft hence its nickname Flóki . They made a great ritual of trance ( seidr ) to make it invulnerable. Ögmundr Eyþjóf killed the great hero, which earned him his nickname. His mother Grímhild turned into a flying monster with a human head ( finngálkn ) and decided Oddr first to tackle it.

The monster had large claws that were each holding a sword. Oddr could kill the creature with three magic arrows, but not before several men Barbarossa had been killed.

Oddr then found his son's half-giant Vignir who said qu'Ögmundr Eyþjófsban had gone away to the northwest, the country Helluland beyond Greenland.

They arrived on two islands and some descended on the island that was submerged and drowned. It was actually two huge whales qu'Ögmundr Eyþjófsban was sent by magic Oddr cons.

But when they arrived in Helluland, Ögmundr Eyþjófsban Vignir killed with his teeth. As he was invulnerable against all weapons of iron, Oddr took a club of wood, but Ögmundr Eyþjófsban managed to escape.

Oddr then went to the East Road that runs from the Baltic Sea to the Greek Empire. Ögmundr Eyþjófsban son had taken refuge as a Giant Oddr had to use his arrows against the army of the Giants and his hands to finally pull the skin from bone Ögmundr. He said he had finally managed to eliminate his enemy.

Barbarossa disappeared Oddr and then realized that it was probably Óðinn god, who came to give him advice.

  • Latest Travel in the East and return Ögmundr Eyþjófsban

Oddr continued to travel eastward. He served in the King's Court in Herrauðr Gardarika (Russia) won a championship there and drink where he sang many poems. He received a mysterious man new stone arrows which were useful to kill the king of Bjálki Álfr magician, who was so powerful that he could hitch his horses to the stars. The king offered him a skjaldmær ("Virgin and shield", a Valkyrie) to hold his shield but Oddr let her drown in a swamp.

Oddr But when the king discovered hidden Kvillánus prevailing throughout the Gardarika was none other than his old enemy, Ögmundr Eyþjófsban, who had survived qu'Oddr had torn his skin and hair.

Oddr finally realized he could never vraincre his nemesis since he was a Spirit and not a man. He agreed to terminate his plan to revenge and goes with Kvillánus-Ögmundr.

  • The realization of the prophecy: the death of the Grand Voyageur Oddr

Oddr m. Silkisif , a daughter of King Herrauðr, and had two son, and Ásmundr Herrauðr.

He had a long life and decided to return to his home in Hrafnista. So much time had passed there was in ruins but the people cheered him as the Lord of Hrafnista. He returned

even Berurjóðr, where he was raised and spent before a horse's skull that had traveled there for Hrafnista. A snake came and bit his skull Oddr. He was mortally wounded and the Seer's Prophecy came true because it was the skeleton of his horse Faxi. He sang a great poem funeral and died. The son of

Oddr Silkisif and founded their house Gardarika Ragnhildr but his daughter was born Ölvör of Ireland, returned to base his family Hrafnista.

  • Tyrfing The cycle was that the sword was cursed Dwarven committing three acts evil whenever she went out of its scabbard. Hjálmarr death was the first but later the girl came Angantyr wake the dead and dig up the sword. Tyrfing then made a crime fratricide among his children and his son Heidrek was then himself killed by his own servants.
    This
Saga also seems completely forget the sword Dragvendil appears both in the two small sagas of Ketil the Salmon and the Play Grim Hairy. An associate of Barbarossa and in Oddr Gardarika, siRNA, also has a magical sword that has a name, " Sniðill .

version of the Battle of the Samsey Gesture Danes Saxo Grammaticus says Oddr not beat them with his famous arrows but with the rudder of his ship.

The Saga of the Grand Voyageur Oddr mixture of many elements of various myths. There seems to be an influence of Ulysses when he faces the Giants who throws rocks at his ship. The great archer foot bitten by the snake can also recall the myth of Philoctetes (but this may be a coincidence). The episode with the giant bird closely resembles that of the Second Voyage of Sinbad the Sailor (except that Sinbad is taken voluntarily by the Roc). Oddr spent his last years to reign over HOLMGARD (the Russian city of Novgorod) and there is contamination with the life of the Varangian Oleg the Wise, who died in the same manner bitten by a snake with the same prophecy.

The following year, Ketil traveled far to Finnmark. Troll A woman tried to stop his ship. Arrived in Saami , Ketil Salmon met the mysterious Sami Bruni, who received from him and even gave his daughter Hrafnhildr , who was of gigantic size. Ketil joins Hrafnhildr but when he returned, Bruni warned that he might meet Gusirr , King of the Sami in Finland. Ketil Gusirr faced a battle à l'arc.

Mais son père Hallbjörn le Demi-Tröll était mécontent de cette union with what he saw as an inhumane Troll. Hrafnhildr gave birth to a child and she covered in fur, it was Grim Hairy to Play, which was part of his face still covered with a coat he could not cut with iron. Hrafnhildr, never to suffer the attacks Hallbjörn, decided to leave but said she would return in three winters.

After the death of Hallbjörn, Ketil inherited his domain Hrafnista. Ketil Hrafnihildr Brúnadóttir review came with his father and he defended the young Grim against a Troll sang a song.

Ketil promised his daughter he Hrafnhildr do not force someone to marry against her will. When suitors were turned away, Ketil had to overcome in single combat.
The following year, when he went on an expedition, he was once again fighting a large troll who went to the þing Trolls, led by "King of Trolls Skelgringr, Ófóti, and Ófótansfirði Thorgerdur Hörgatröll. Then the Viking

Framarr king of Gestrekaland came to ask the hand of Hrafnhildr. Framarr was a priest of Óðinn on his mound and Árhaug Óðinn offered him invulnerability to all swords. Hrafnhildr refused marriage and Ketil had to respond again to a duel for the hand of his daughter.

So he went to the Gestrekaland who "was now a vassal of the Huns" and became friends with Böðmóðr 's son Framarr, who offered him hospitality. Böðmóðr even came to support him in the duel against his father. An eagle came down from heaven and tore the clothes Framarr, which was a bad omen. Ketil was Camelot Dragvendil but even his blows could not pass the magic of Framarr, protected from Óðinn. Ketil but do not sacrifice to the gods and did not care that his own valor and the third time, finally Framarr Dragvendil pierced and killed him.

Böðmóðr's son Framarr, asked as this one's hand Hrafnhildr and it agreed to marry the man who had sided with Ketil against his father.

Ketil Hrafnista continued to rule, and then stops in Hålogaland his Saga.

  • This short saga tells the story of a Ketil Salmon in Norway, but the saga was written in medieval Iceland. It appears a second Ketil, also known as "Salmon", but in Iceland, a descendant of it, after several generations in the Saga of Egil , Ketil "Son of Thorkell" and he participated in the colonization of island. Note

few repetitions in the saga of the Salmon. He enlists the help of the Finns against Bruni his cousin King Gusirr but yet not marry the daughter of Hrafnhildr Bruni (who will be the mother of his heir to Play Grim Hairy). Then he enlists the help of the Swedish Böðmóðr against his father King Framarr and then gives the hand of his daughter Hrafnhildr (II). We obtain the sovereignty and Princess in a ritual murder of the father, but always through an intermediary to avoid the parricide.

Finns in the Scandinavian myths are almost humans, wizards and trolls already. The magic sword of Dragvendill Gusirr will then reappear in the Sagas. There is no explanation for the fact that she could Framarr pass defenses. The three magic arrows offered by Bruni also reappear throughout the epic cycle Hrafnista.
