Table of Samsara and Jātismara

A spinning wheel and a game using the game in Gestation Bhāratavarṣa . The

Samsara (संसार) is the cycle of reincarnation. The act of Jātismara (जातिस्मर, "Memory of birth") is the act of remembering his past lives (one to jātismar is one who has that rare ability to have these memories, usually a ṛṣi , a seer-prophet). The

jātismarā in Hindu texts seems to remember all his Lives (and even before he remembered it, even when he was in animal form), but in the game, we can consider this as a sort of jurisdiction very partial of life, at least until we do not reach the score of at least 1 in Jātismara . In short, the character can make a jet to remember snatches of a life to help in the present situation and treated it as just a flashback created by the player by spending a point of Karman. In

Bhāratavarṣa , there may be two options :

- You choose your character by creating one or more past lives, karma the ensuing, skills or connections drawn from it.

- You pull on the Great Cakraṃ of Jātismara (also called more soberly Table of Random Reminiscences ).

Start a d20.

1) - 2) You were a beast. Remove the sub-table of the Animals. You now have a link with these animals and can communicate with them.
3) You were of low origin (barbarian or untouchable). This gives you is a shameful secret, a dash of compassion for the lower castes. You can search for the unfortunate family of your incarnation.
4) Bad Karma ! You had violated the Dharma (eg being a kshatriya has outraged brahmana !) And you must atone. Add a Dark Secret, a Curse or a desire to redeem yourself ascetic.
5) You were a monstrous Yaksa a Rākṣasaḥ or even a minor Asura. You have been killed by a hero or a God, or meditating to overcome this status asura. You kept a strange magic and a link with some Asuras.
6) Great Love! You were bound to someone by the arrows of Kama itself and you still looking for the reincarnation of another (to shoot dice to know what sex he / she has reincarnated (e), unless c is only a bhuta / preta, a ghost). Your purusartha is perhaps the Kama . You also have to sacrifice everything This exclusive passion, which takes you away from the release cycle.
7) tragic love. The other loved you (e) but now wants you to death because you have disappointed (e) or he / she believes (perhaps incorrectly?) That you have betrayed (e) (as Amba / Śikhaṇḍī wishing to avenge the hero Bhisma , who had taken a vow of celibacy).
8) hatred, enemy or rival. He / she will research further in this life to take revenge or simple animosity.
9) You had mastered an art or skill Outstanding. Your purusartha can be the making or performance of this skill ( artha).
10) The enigma. You have been a mystery (or worldly mysticism) in this life and you must try to solve it. All your knowledge of research have aimed for this purpose.
11) Link or family friendly. Looking for the family of these connections and they will recognize a sign.
12) Maya, the Great Illusion. You had a belief an illusion, a senseless or irrational attachment and you still can not get rid This passion or obsession in this new life. It can make you confuse your previous life with life today.
13) You have sacrificed and have accomplished a great feat for you is the eternal gratitude of a group of people or a god.
14) In artist worthy of Visvakarma , you left a great work, which may be an architectural treasure, or a divine weapon. You are looking for.
15) You were in another class (varna ) and you look like today to obey restrictions contradictory (eg a kshatriya who gives a prohibited brahmana, or vice versa).
16) You were a superhuman being, Naga , Apsarāḥ , Gandharva of heaven or of Ganas of Ganesa and Siva . You can find your entries from your old friends, but we must also explain how and why you are reborn in mortal.
17) You were a wise man, a meditator, a great guru a ṛṣi and you've spent this long life during this era to meditate to get closer to the Moksa .
18) You were a minor aspect (or vehicle or an attribute) of a deity but do still have a vague memory.
19) Remember two Lives: shoot twice on this table. Whenever you get a 19 it can be cumulative.
20) तत् त्वम् असि ("You're IT"). You access to the knowledge of the identity of the individual self and the absolute bráhman . You must you increase your score by at least 1 in Jātismara .

The secular priesthood

The clergy, in the words of Chomsky for the intellectual "organic" does not really limit the generality of Malcolm Gladwell and "French Intellectuals " ( the intellectual " specific" specialist was not, moreover, not always adequately represented by one who had proposed the term, Foucault - his knowledge of Iran remained general when he spoke it). But as one commentator said, the ideology of a vacuum Tom Friedman may be worse than the paradoxes of little merit Gladwell.

The picture above was taken from the Book Generator Gladwell (which unfortunately for the moment only 25 blankets).

first part of Cyclades

I liked the presentation Cyclades the last World Game and I could do a guest appearance this weekend. The purpose

the game is to be the first to build two cities in this imaginary archipelago of islands and each player must manage its resources for the favor of the gods (in bidding for a sacrifice to God at every turn).

We can do nothing without these sacrifices must be sacrificed to Ares recruiting armies or to move them to Poseidon to raise fleets or move. As there is at most a player who has the favor of Ares every turn, this makes it very successive movements, except that they may obtain the favor of a mythological monster (there are 17) and some powers closer to God. Sacrifice to Zeus achieves priests (which lowers the price of sacrifices future) or temples (which lowers the price of monsters). Sacrifice to Athena allows intellectual development (1 or 2 per round philosophers, knowing that 4 philosophers give immediately a City). The choice not to spend sacrifice (sacrificing to Apollo) is not always bad as it may increase future resources (a cornucopia of placing in the territories controlled). The multiplicity of strategies to achieve these conditions allows victories surprises.

The author, Bruno Cathala, gives some tips for beginners .

The game begins slowly enough as it has few areas where resources and accelerating accumulate. I decided to call my colony the Spartans (even if we imagine a little thalassocracy) and selected an aggressive play by sacrificing quickly Ares. My opponent had a colony Armida Pythagorean and sacrificed to Athena . I was surprised at how quickly their first city, Platonopolis thanks to philosophers, but I managed to distribute some elements and a conquest of their university, I reached my first as City, Phobos Deimos-kai-. The Pythagoreans became more aggressive, with a sudden air invasion by Pegasus . They largely dominated me in wealth and the gap is widening with each cycle, even if it made them spend a lot in their sacrifices. To avoid the random battles (many find there are too many random Cyclades), it suffices to have at least two armies more than the opponent but it was often not the case.

Finally, our strategies s'inversèrent. The Pythagoreans sacrificed greatly Ares and Poseidon to prepare for a massive invasion, but the chance that Athena would be pretty high in the priorities for this round. Sparta managed to accumulate as the "philosophers" (presumably "Lycurgus" or foreigners) without noticing that the Pythagoreans, which allowed me to win my second city, Eris, by surprise (finally, these screens that hide resources are used).

Rereading the rules, I realize that two, we should have gone to the 3rd Precinct to finish, but it would have made the game drag on and the first part had still last 1:30. I remain a casual gamer as it is not role playing but the game seems very much alive. But it will take 2-3 parts test before seeing the longevity of the game

Obscenity New Look

Daniel Schneidermann recalls Zemmour that has not been sentenced on his sentence on statistics on ethnic traffickers, but on another connection (that employers should have the right to discriminate in hiring on ethnic criteria) and it is fun there is still a vague misunderstanding among Herve Novelli where the presented as a martyr for freedom tyrannized by the expression " Politically Correct" (ie law). But

Schneidermann also noted that the company Dior (Arnault group) was firmer against antisemitism ethyl Galliano that the company Guerlain (LVMH-Arnault) had not been confronted with racism senile John Paul Guerlain. Both symptoms are quite different. Guerlain must believe first degree racist prejudices and it is amazing that his unconscious wishes and will publicly disclose. Bruno Borat parodying Galliano uses insulting anti-Jewish and advocating genocide as a mere empty sign which does not rely, as so often in the obscenity that the intensity of the transgression.

The Dior group were other ghosts, as noted in a meme on Facebook. Françoise Dior (1932-1993), niece completely disturbed by Christian Dior, was officially over Nazi (after royalist), proclaiming his admiration for Hitler in the '60s to "preserve the Aryan race" (see his marriage to a British Nazi in 1963). She eventually joined the RPR Jacques Chirac in 1983 (at the same time that Bruno Megret went off course).

Add. The Daily Show amused yesterday at the expense of designer unknown "Bosch Fawstin" ("racist bitten by a spider when he was young), which combines a first-degree hate worthy of the great Steve Ditko, the cult of Ayn Rand , Oedipus complex (his parents are of Albanian origin) and widespread anti-Muslim. But his hero appoint anti-Islam "Pigman", whatever the (unfortunate) choirophobie of Judeo-Muslim, seems almost to parody, like John Galliano or a Nazi character created as the Man- Shrimp ( Leviticus 11; 9-12).

There is even a small page on the big brother UK White Dwarf No. 35-38, the American Dragon No. 68-69 and the new magazine TSR UK Imagine (which is not considered as poor). Casus also makes the calls for a role play science fiction on the radio live on France-Inter in February 1983 with listeners who have called to interpret the characters exploring the interstellar ship . The outputs include role play Gangbusters, Behind Enemy Lines, Star Trek (FASA version), The Morrow Project, the very dark The Official Superhero Adventure Game (the pompous title completely misleading), The Fantasy Trip, Heroes of Olympus, and already the writer begins to wonder if the original genres begins to collapse.

Guess Who's Coming to Dinner tonight: The Ravor is a raccoon thief.

From Art Equestrian by Bruce Heard gives rules on riders and tournaments for AD & D, with an Order of the Squires, which seems to be a sort of medium between "competence" (as several character classes can be enter) and a character class.

Day by Day of decidedly prolific Bruce Heard Formula One calendar fictional D & D with 12 months (Fire nascent Findefroid, Lestes Seeds, White Sheep Cuivrechamps, Harvest Gold, Rich Sun, Sweet Life, Mortefeuille, Dark Wood Grise Light, Snowdrop), and seven-day week (Selenia, Day of the Gods, Aquaria, Terranias, Aquilonia, Celestia, Solaria). This calendar later became one of the City of Laelith .

alarian Journey into a module is not AD & D but a change with a "countryside setting " A country fantasy intrigue with a few ideas but no feature. The introduction justifies the need to move to a world campaign, not primarily for reasons of "narrative" but for reasons of "fun", to avoid inconsistent GrosBill who invents arbitrarily their past. Alarian a medieval country is relatively simple and low-fantasy, directed by King Khalidan in the capital Talbeth Hav-. The country is threatened to the north by the invasions conventional humanoid barbarians Czar and triceratops fur (which are described in the module AD & D Moon wave " Casus Belli No. 20) and south by the neighboring kingdom of Rhagarron (led by Dolgener II, cousin of King Khalidan). But inside, the country is experiencing both thieves fighting against the excesses of corrupt police Khalidan proselytizing and worship of Noirsceau , evil, evil religion led by Osztarnaüs Raven (like the Skull in Laelith). The population is human, but there is a elven kingdom to the east, with an enclave in the port of Alaëhn . Alarian not as marked as Laelith, partly because Casus did in fact never really developed. As mentioned above, alarian is supposed to be east of the Archipelago Malienda and west of Laelith according Casus Special Edition No. 11 (April 1994).

An advertisement for the Games in Descartes back cover of this issue provides an overview of logos of the company. I pass on the logo at the beginning (sort of hex numbers 1-3). The portrait of the philosopher fails player first rather then be a disaster.

But here in this issue, there is a fancier test:

Coincidentally, Asmodeus, the company Croc , which owns the brand, is currently seeking a new logo our knight-musketeer-surveyor cogitate favorite.

* As promised, overflight Runes No. 1, January 1983, 40 pages, 15 francs.

Runes is the fanzine of Henri and Dominique Balczezak, the ATOLL (Toulouse Association of organizing leisure games). A major difference is that Casus is entirely devoted to role-play from the start while Casus was over 50% on wargames.

This first issue introduces the " There is no fool job" devoted to character classes of AD & D with summary tables on two pages. This No. 1 Thief, No. 2 Clerc, the No. 3 Fighter, No. 4 Magus, No. 5 Butcher (parody of new classes), No. 6 Assassin, No. 7, the Druid, the Paladin No. 8, No. 9 Ranger (and the last issue No. 10 took one of the first). Runes often fussy in the commentary of obscure details of AD & D, which was not always translated (there are 3 pages just on the interpretation of rules Initiative). The issue even has a quiz on the rules. One of the editors

also a proposal to use AD & D to simulate superheroes (Spider-Man has a Force 20 and the fate Spiderweb ). An extension of the original idea has recently led to the game retro Hideout & Hoodlums , which incorporates a variation of OD & D.

module suffers from having the number of cards less attractive than in Casus . Another article on the Wizards gradually give advice to players who interpret specific knowledge about the functioning of Magic in terms of the fictional world (including magic items) and not only in terms of game rules for keep a sort of mystery to the Magic.

This first issue also introduced Traveller (game curiously ignored by the team Casus ) and there will be some interesting script ideas to the latest numbers. But apart from numerous references to RuneQuest in subsequent issues, remain fairly Runes D & D-centric.
